Parramatta Council Extends Free Bus Contract

Parramatta City Council has extended Veolia Transport NSW’s contract to operate its free bus service in the city centre.

The Council’s Manager City Assets and Environment, Jim Stefan said, “I wish to take this opportunity to thank Veolia Transport, its management and staff for its service and support to date and look forward to the year ahead.”

The free bus service operates in a continuous loop around Parramatta every 15 minutes, seven days a week. It provides residents and visitors with quick access to the city’s commercial, retail and leisure outlets.

Veolia Transport NSW Managing Director, Morris Caputi said, “This is great news for Veolia as we see this as an important service to the community and for those who have come to rely on it since its introduction in 2008.

“It is our hope that we can continue to operate the service for many years to come,” he said.

Up to 4,000 passengers use the free bus service every day and more than two million journeys have been made on the service since it commenced.

The free bus service contract has been extended for a year to 28 August 2012.
